Thanks David Bromstad!

Awesome Update: "Anonymous" posted David Bromstad's actual technique video with the 'how to' for this project.  Thank you Anonymous!!!  :)  Here's the link: http://www.hgtv.com/video/celebrity-art-project-video/index.html

I was watching "Color Splash" on HGTV one day and the host of the show, David Bromstad, was creating a great painting using acrylic paint and a water spray bottle. He'd paint a little and then spray it. The water would give it a kind of rained-on look, but in a good way.

I thought it was pretty clever so I made a painting using this technique.

Try out this out, but be prepared to catch the dripping water and paint with something besides your carpet!

Additional Comments: Folk Art is the brand of acrylic paint that I used.  I find that the acrylics that come in the tubes are thick and hard to manipulate so try to get it in the container-I think it's pre-mixed with water.

  3. Thank for putting this up, I can't find it anywhere on HGTV and it's a great alternative to purchasing by personalizing it to cater to your own room!

  7. Thank you! Really having a hard time finding any how-to information using David's style. For example,I don't think he always uses canvas, sometimes it's just a piece of wood.

  8. That's true! Have you thought about emailing him? I looked on his site and it said to email his agent: http://www.bromstad.com/index.php
Good luck and if you find anything out please let us know :)

  9. What acrylic paint did you use? I tried this, but the paint I used seemed more thick and didn't run nearly as well. It basically dissipated when I sprayed it, leaving the canvas exposed again.

  10. Hi OuttaBox Wedding Films! The paint I used came from JoAnn Fabrics in a little 2fl. oz. container (not a tube-tubes seem to be more concentrated). It's called "Folk Art". I agree that this process is kind of trial and error and it's frustrating when it seems to be more error. I have been there! If you can find the Folk Art-like paint I suggest putting it on the slightly wet canvas thick and then spraying it gently with the sprayer to give it a chance to run. You could even try patting it a little with a wet piece of paper towel to spread it out more. Let me know how this goes and I appreciate your post.

  12. Hello, Thank you for posting the video. I think David is using Golden Fluid Acrylic. Liquitex seems to be thicker than Golden. Have anyone tried Lukas Fluid Acrylic?

  13. I am also looking for tips on this technique and came across David's video. I had anticipated using acrylic paints also but in the video he says "latex" paint. Is this true or did he maybe mess up his words?! Just curious! Thanks for finding this video, I have been looking for it for a long time!

  14. I have used this technique several times and just refilled my paint bottles to go start another...I have had nothing but excellent results and many compliments. I used latex paint...I get the color sample jars at my local Home Supply store and needless to say the palette to choose from is neverending. Cannot think of a more fun art project and the results are outstanding.
